15 miners feared dead at Sakupwanya's Redwing Mine

Mabvuku-Tafara MP Pedzisayi Scott Sakupwanya's Redwing Mine in Penhalonga, Manicaland province, has reportedly collapsed and at least 15 miners are trapped and feared dead inside the shaft.

It is reported that the site has since been covered by hundreds of residents who are trying to rescue the victims.

Redwing has a history of fatal accidents which have been linked to poor safety standards at the mine.

In an interview with Zim Now, Centre For Natural Resource Governance executive director Farai Maguwu said the organisation has petitioned government to stop operations at the mine over safety concerns.

In March last year, Sakupwanya conducted a ritual ceremony to cleanse the mine as operations were due to start after being authorities had suspended activity due to safety concerns
