A man, who went to rob money and a car from a complainant's house, has been denied bail.

Michael Chafupa, 21, of Budiriro 5, appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with armed robbery.

He will appear in court on January 25 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The State, through prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, alleges that on September 21, 2023, at around 1840 hours, Chafupa, together with his accomplices, armed themselves with a shot gun and went to the complainant’s house at number 15 Breach Road in Borrowdale, Harare.

When they arrived, they confronted the security guard, Brian Raisi, who was manning the main entrance and took away his Taurus revolver which was loaded with two live rounds.

During that same time, Tonny Wang, the owner of the residence arrived home driving in his Honda Elyison.

Chafupa and his accomplices confronted Wang, pointed the shot gun at him, ordering him to follow their demands.

He further tied the security guard’s hands from behind and forced him and his boss to the main house.

In the process, they searched the security guard and stole his Itel P36 phone.

Chafupa and his accomplices also took Wenjuan Wang, a business partner to Wang, and tied her hands and took her phone.

All the three complainants were forced into Wang’s bedroom where Chafupa and his accomplices started threatening Wang, demanding money.

Chafupa and his accomplices took a cash box from the bedroom, which had US$2 000, company documents, two black pairs of male ecco shoes and a power bank.

After getting the loot Chafupa, and his accomplices took Wang’s car keys, they then dumped Wang’s phone and the guard’s revolver in the yard and drove away with Wang’s Honda Elyison.

Chafupa later sold the stolen car to one Lawrence Paso and did an agreement of sale as the owner of the car.

Paso is the one who later led to the recovery of the car and Chafupa’s subsequent arrest.
