Incarcerated former Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala, and Chitungwiza North MP, Godfrey Karakadzayi Sithole, will know their fate on January 24, 2024 in a case in which they are accused of inciting public violence.

The two appeared in court on Tuesday morning for trial proceedings. They were informed that their trial had ended, and on January 24, 2024 at 1415 hrs, judgement would be read.

Sikhala was arrested on 14 June 2023 and has been in prison for close to 600 days while Sithole was released on bail last year.

They were accused of inciting public violence following skirmishes to avenge the murder of Moreblessing Ali in the Nyatsime area of Chitungwiza last year.

Ali was gruesomely murdered by Pius Mukandi Jamba.

Jamba was arrested, put on trial for murder, convicted, and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

In an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the official opening of the 2024 legal year in Harare on Monday, Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said Sikhala’s detention was justified.

“When you go to the courts do not expect the outcome to be on your side, even our Chief Justice Luke Malaba addressed such matters in his speech while opening the 2024 legal year, cases are looked at both sides,” Ziyambi said.

“If you go to the courts, go and expect a fair judgment; (anything) else, you will be disappointed. Those who are saying this and that about Sikhala, they want the courts to do what they expect and what they want. Our courts are independent, and they are doing their job with no interference.”
