British pilot kidnapped, robbed and tortured in Jo’burg

A British Airways pilot is reportedly recovering after he was allegedly kidnapped, tortured and robbed in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The incident happened last weekend when the pilot was targeted outside a shopping complex in Melrose Arch.

According to UK publication, The Sun, the unnamed pilot was approached by a woman at a shopping complex who asked him to help carry her bags to her car. However, when they reached the vehicle, a group of men allegedly pushed the First Officer inside.

The men drove the pilot to a remote area in Johannesburg where he was tortured.

According to the UK publication, the criminals only stopped beating the pilot after he handed over thousands of pounds.

The victim was beaten to a pulp such that he could not fly the plane back from Johannesburg to London, and a replacement had to take over. He is reportedly recovering and has been given time off from work.

Crew member stabbed

In a separate incident in July 2023, a British Airways captain was held at gunpoint and stabbed in a terrifying attack after going for a run between flights in Johannesburg.

The pilot had gone jogging with a crew member during downtime while on a stopover in Johannesburg and it is believed they broke strict BA rules by leaving the security-approved compound which houses their crew hotel. - The South African
