Kamativi Mining Company has invested US$200 million in two phases that will see the mining firm setting up local processing facilities that include the construction of a lithium salt plant and a solar power plant.
"KMC will develop the mine in two phases and invest US$200 million to build the mining and processing facilities creating thousands of jobs and benefits for communities in Zimbabwe. KMC will build a lithium salt plant and a solar plant power station in Kamativi," said Kamativi Mining Company's General Manager Mr Jack Ye.
KMC recently commissioned phase one of its modern lithium processing plant, a significant step for Zimbabwe's mining industry and its aspirations to become a major player in the global green energy revolution.
The mining company is targeting to produce 130 000 tonnes of ore and build and operationalise a processing plant for value addition and beneficiation through capital injection.
Employment levels at the mining firm have also risen from just 67 to above 200 employees and created more than 1 000 jobs indirectly.
"KMC has created jobs, direct and thousands for contractors. The community has benefited immensely through your different programmes. That is what the government is looking for," said Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Richard Moyo.
Once a vibrant mine known for tin production, the closure of Kamativi Mine back in 1994 created a ghost town and now the Chinese company has injected new life into the community.
