Man up for possession of 6kgs NRZ telephone weld wire

A man, who was found with 6kgs of telephone weld wire belonging to the National Railways of Zimbabwe, will have his fate decided on Friday this week.

Kudakwashe Moyo, 19, appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of accused of possession of equipment used for the provision of railway services.

The complainant is NRZ, represented by Freddy Mufandaedza, who is the loss control officer.

The State, through prosecutor Nomsa Kangara, alleges that on September 22, 2023, at around 0800 hours, four National Railways of Zimbabwe loss control officers, Freddy Mufandaedza, Tapiwa Chiwara and Tinashe Gabriel Mutamwa were on patrol along the railway lines.

When they reached the area opposite he Vehicle Inspection Department in Eastlea, Harare, the loss control officers spotted Moyo carrying a white sack and they become suspicious.

It is alleged that Moyo noticed the presence of the four loss control officers and went on to hide in the grass.

The loss control officers approached Moyo and identified themselves.

When they searched his sack, a rolled telephone weld wire was recovered from his sack.

It is alleged that he failed to give a satisfactory explanation of his possession of the telephone weld wire and was then apprehended by the NRZ loss control officers.

The white sack containing the stolen telephone wire was recovered as an exhibit.

The telephone weld wire was weighed at National Railways of Zimbabwe and weighed 6 kilogrammes.

He will appear in court on January 19 for his sentencing.
