Namibian President, Hage Geingob, is receiving medical treatment to treat cancerous cells that were revealed following medical examinations he underwent earlier this month.

In a statement, Press Secretary, Dr Alfredo Tjiurimo Hengari said the Head of State went for a colonoscopy and a gastroscopy on January 8, and a follow-up biopsy revealed the presence of cancerous cells.

“….of which the results revealed cancerous cells. On the advice of the medical team, President Geingob will undertake appropriate medical treatment to deal with the cancerous cells,” said Hengari.

The development comes at a time the African country is due for an election at the end of the year.
