A Harare man has been taken to court for allegedly stealing car keys, more US$2 000 and a phone from the complainant who was sleeping and waited for him to wake up and report the matter so that he could steal the car.
Edwin Tatenda Musiiwa, of Glen Norah in Harare, appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts on allegations of theft.
The State, through prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, alleges that on December 16, 2023, at around 0200 hours, Glen Norah shops, Musiiwa and his two accomplices, who are still at large, approached the complainant, who was sleeping in his white Mazda Demio.
The State alleges that the accused persons stole complainant’s wallet with US$2 370, a Samsung A32 phone and his car keys and went away.
The complainant woke up discovered the offence.
He then left the car unattended and went to the police station to make a report.
It is alleged that Musiiwa then took advantage of complainant’s absence, used the car keys he had stolen and drove the car away.
On January 17, 2024, Musiiwa was arrested and led to the recovery of the stolen car.
As a result US$10 020 was stolen and US$7 500 of Value was recovered.
Total value stolen is US$10 020 and total value recovered is US$7500.
The car was recovered from one Struggle Tapera, who had bought it from Musiiwa.
Musiiwa will appear in court on January 24.
