A Harare maid has appeared in court accused of stealing US$20 000 from her boss’ boyfriend’s house.

Cecelia Chirwa appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft.

The complainant is the matter is Tawanda Gabriel Makota Mhosva, 44.

The State, through Zebediah Bofu alleges that, on January 9, at around 8am at  Mhosva’s residence located at corner 3rd Street and Josiah Tongogara Avenue, Harare he left his US$20 000 inside a small bag which was in a monarch bag in his wardrobe.

He closed all windows at his apartment and locked all doors before giving the keys to his girlfriend, Sarah Mutsamwira, for safekeeping and left for Kadoma.

The State alleges that on January 11, Mutsamwira gave Chirwa the keys for Mhosva’s apartment for her to go and do laundry as usual.

Then on January 18, Mhosva returned from Kadoma and got his keys back from Mutsamwira.

When he tried to open the door, he discovered that the bedroom door was not locked.

He checked his stuff and discovered that his money had been stolen and reported the matter to the police.

It was established that Chirwa was the only person who had gained access into the apartment by opening the main door and the bedroom door using the keys.

Observations made at the scene shows that there was no forced entry.
