Mamelodi Sundowns are casting their net wide in search of fresh talent, with club scout Esrom Nyandoro confirming their presence at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Sundowns, known for their proactive approach to recruitment, aren’t limiting their scope to domestic tournaments. “We are fortunate enough at Mamelodi Sundowns to get the support we get from the Motsepe family,” Nyandoro said. “We scout in these tournaments, Chan tournament, youth tournaments, every tournament that’s happening, even with the Phillis games that played in December, we go there and scout, so that's what scouting is all about.”
The Africa Cup of Nations, featuring talented players from across the continent, provides a prime hunting ground for clubs like Sundowns eager to bolster their ranks. With continental aspirations firmly in their sights, the Pretoria-based giants are constantly striving to improve their squad.
While Nyandoro remained tight-lipped about specific targets, his admission of scouting activity at the Afcon fuels speculation about potential signings. Sundowns, already boasting a formidable squad, are likely searching for players who can add depth and quality in key positions.
This proactive approach to recruitment has served Sundowns well in recent years. The club's impressive performance on the domestic and continental stage can be partly attributed to their shrewd transfer dealings. Unearthing hidden gems and developing future stars are hallmarks of their scouting strategy.
With the Africa Cup of Nations offering a smorgasbord of talent, Sundowns are undoubtedly hoping to strike gold once again. Whether they emerge from the tournament with a new midfield maestro, a prolific striker, or a defensive rock, remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Mamelodi Sundowns are always on the lookout for the next big thing, and the Africa Cup of Nations is simply too tempting an opportunity to miss.
