The 2023/24 Logan Cup champions have been crowned! The Mountaineers dominated the Mashonaland Eagles in their final match, securing their fifth first-class cricket title in commanding fashion.

It was a swift three-day victory for the Manicaland-based team at Old Hararians Sports Club. Brian Bennet and Tony Munyonga set the tone with a magnificent batting display, both scoring double centuries in the Mountaineers’ first innings. Bennet’s marathon knock of 631 runs, spanning over seven hours, laid the foundation for a mammoth total of 631 for 7 declared.

The Eagles’ response faltered against the fiery bowling of Tendai Chatara and Wellington Masakadza. They were dismissed for 302, leaving the Mountaineers with a formidable lead of 425 runs. Enforcing the follow-on, Chatara continued his dominance, dismantling the Eagles’ batting once again. They were bowled out for 206, handing the Mountaineers a resounding innings and 123-run victory.

This decisive win, coupled with points accumulated throughout the season, propelled the Mountaineers to the top of the table with 130 points. They edged past Southern Rocks (122 points) to claim the coveted Logan Cup trophy, marking their fifth championship title.
