Police have arrested six suspects in the US$720 000 armed robbery at Quest Financial Services in Belgravia, Harare.
The robbery took place on February 25, 2024, and the suspects were arrested on February 27.
The suspects, who have since appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts for their initial remand, are Brighton Chikukwa, Silence Matambo, Washington Mangwanda, Liberty Mukanganise, Tafadzwa Richard Marondera, and Luke Zinyengere.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said Chikukwa was arrested first and implicated the other suspects.
The police then recovered US$25 000, a car, and other items from Chikukwa.
The other suspects were then arrested one by one, and the police recovered a total of US$118 560, three cars, four tyres, and several electronic devices.
Ass. Comm. Nyathi commended the public for providing information that led to the arrests and urged company executives to be more careful about sharing information about financial transactions, security, and movements with employees.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds the public for supplying positive information which has assisted the police to account for armed robbery suspects throughout the country.
“The police reiterates that company executives must ensure that information on institutions’ financial transactions, security and movements is not shared with each and every employee. It is now clear that most high profile robbery cases have an element of inside information,” Nyathi said.
He said that most high-profile robbery cases involve inside information and urged the public to continue reporting criminal activities to the police.
