Govt reviews councillors’ allowances

Government has reviewed councillors’ allowances effective January 1, 2024.

The allowances review was announced by Local Government and Public Works Minister, Winston Chitando, in a circular to local authorities dated February 27, 2024.

In the circular, the minister said Mayors/Chairpersons would get ZWL$1 629 906, Deputy Mayors/Chairpersons would get ZWL$1 494 081, while Committee Chairpersons would get ZWL$1 412 585 and Councillors would get ZWL$1 358 255.

“The review is effective from January 1, 2024. This circular rescinds all previous circulars relating to this subject matter.

“Please note that interpretation of any part of this circular rests with the undersigned,” reads the notice.
