The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company has been found guilty of culpable homicide by the Murambinda Magistrates’ Court.
The charges stem from an incident on March 3, 2022, where 52-year-old Havatendi Kangetsambo was electrocuted by exposed wires at a farm paddock and died on the spot.
ZETDC was ordered to pay a fine of US$200, a sentence the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has announced they will be appealing.
The NPA believes the sentence is insufficient and is seeking a harsher penalty. The details of the appeal are yet to be made public.
