Woman sets polygamous husband ablaze

New Ziana - A Chipinge woman, who is in a polygamous marriage, has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for attempted murder after setting ablaze her husband who had accused her of infidelity.

Six months of the sentence were, however, suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving her with an effective 12-month jail term.

On January 1 this year, Cecilia Chitambo, 35, had a heated argument with her husband, Fungai Nyazana who accused her of having an extramarital affair with her former husband who had paid her a visit at the marital home.

Following the dispute, Chitambo left the matrimonial home and went to her parents’ home, but returned the following day when another dispute involving money ensued.

She doused her husband with petrol and set him ablaze, but he managed to put off the fire.

Chitambo was subsequently arrested, and convicted of attempted murder.
