A 39-year-old man, Harrison Chiocha has been arrested for attacking a security guard during an armed robbery.
In a statement, the police said they stole two cellphones before attacking the guard, who managed to escape and alerted the police.
“The suspect was apprehended whilst fleeing from the scene. The other four suspects escaped,” reads the statement.
The arrest led to the recovery of a machete, an axe, two hammers, a bolt cutter, a CCTV server and cables.
Meanwhile, the police is investigating the murder of a 35-year-old man, Prosper Jonasi, which occurred on April 8, 2024 at Cross Shopping Centre, Epworth.
The suspects identified as Tichaona Kanje, 27, and Benny Chipiwa, 18, are believed to have taken turns in assaulting the victim with fists and booted feet all over his body after an argument.
According to the police report, Kanje later hit the victim with an empty beer bottle on the arm, leading to his death.
The victim died upon admission at Sally Mugabe Hospital.
In another case, a 49-year-old Rugare man was arrested for the murder of a man he found stealing some maize cobs in his field on Friday last week.
In a statement, police said the victim is yet to be identified.
“Police in Harare are investigating a case of murder which occurred on April 5, 2024 at an open space in Rugare. A mob attacked a yet to be identified man after he was found by Gift Kamuripa (49) stealing his maize,” police said.
