A man, who allegedly burnt wife to death during the final stages of divorce, has been taken before the court.
Ashley Kabaya, 29, of Chief Chinhamora, appeared in court facing murder allegations.
The State alleges that Kabaya and the now-deceased, Spiwe Jenyure were tenants at Shuwa Homestead in Domboshava.
He was remanded in custody at the hospital.
It is alleged that the two were in their room sharing property as they were in their final divorcing stages.
It is alleged that Jenyure was supposed to move out after sharing the property.
Kabaya then locked the door from the inside, they had an altercation and took a golf stick which he used to strike Jenyure on the back.
The court heard that he then poured a mixture of cobra and paraffin on Jenyure’s body and burnt her.
Kabaya allegedly took a comforter and covered Jenyure as she was burning.
It is alleged that when Jenyure realised that when Kabaya was about to open the door to flee, she gained courage and grabbed Kabaya, who also caught fire.
A passerby heard Jenyure screaming for help, went there and opened the door from outside and managed to retrieve the two who were in flames.
With the help of other people, they managed to put out the fire.
The two were ferried to the hospital for treatment as they sustained severe burns.
Jenyure later died on April 17, while Kabaya is still admitted at the hospital.
