Gokwe businessman loses US$10k to armed robbers

Four suspected armed robbers broke into Gokwe businessman, Leonard Chari’s shop at Masakadza Business Centre, and stole US$9 900, ZAR3 000 and a pistol last Saturday.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the robbery occurred around 1am, adding that the unidentified intruders where armed with axes and logs.

Chari, 45, his family and workers were assaulted.

The suspects demanded cash from Chari and his employee.

The four robbers assaulted him, his wife, children and the shop attendant before stealing US$9 900, ZAR3 000, a Taurus revolver loaded with 28 rounds and five mobile phones and went away.

The pistol was found in his yard in the morning.

Insp. Mahoko warned the public against keeping huge sums of money at their place of residence.

“We are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects. We further urge members of the public not to keep large sums of money in their premises,” said Inspector Mahoko.
