Two groups of women were targeted by robbers over the weekend while praying at Mutemwa Prayer Mountain in Mutoko, Mashonaland East Province.
Father Salicio Mukuwe, the Priest-in-Charge at the centre, reported that the incidents occurred early Sunday morning, April 21st.
In both cases, the women had left their belongings unattended and they were stolen.
The first incident involved five women who only realised their bags were missing after hearing about the second robbery.
In the second incident, six women were approached by a suspect at Station 2 on their climb up the mountain. The suspect inquired about the centre’s guards and then forced the women to lie down before stealing their cell phones.
The perpetrator is still at large, with the Zimbabwe Republic Police investigating the matter.
In response to the robberies, the centre has implemented new security measures. Effective immediately, a guard will be patrolling the grounds every Friday and Saturday night from 6pm to 6am.
“We regret this incident,” stated Father Mukuwe.
