Zimbabwean striker Prince Dube's transfer saga in Tanzania has taken a dramatic turn, with reports suggesting fierce rivals Yanga have tabled a lucrative offer to lure him away from Azam FC.
Dube, a key player for the Zimbabwe national team, the Warriors, is pushing for a move away from Azam, claiming his contract expires in June. However, Azam maintain the deal has two more years on it. This disagreement has resulted in a nasty public dispute, with Dube refusing to train or play for the club.
The Tanzanian Football Federation is currently reviewing the case, but Yanga hasn’t waited for a verdict. According to reports, they’ve offered Dube a two-year contract, complete with a luxurious house near the beach, a car, and a hefty salary. Sources close to Yanga even claim Dube has already signed the deal.
“Dube has signed for Yanga,” a source told a Tanzanian publication. “It’s the only club he wants. The contract is very attractive – a house, car, and a high salary. Azam need to let him go. They offered him a better deal, but he’s not happy anymore. He wants a winning team.”
The situation has created tension between the two Tanzanian giants. With relations frosty, Dube has reportedly been forced to hire bodyguards for his safety.
Azam, meanwhile, is demanding a hefty release fee of over US$300 000, much higher than the US$150 000 Dube reportedly offered. Whether the Tanzania Football Federation’s ruling will influence Yanga’s offer or Azam’s asking price remains to be seen.
