A man has been taken to court accused of disappearing with the complainant’s money which he had been given to change it to US dollars.

Calisto Maruva, 28, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud.

He was remanded in custody.

The State alleges that on March 28, Maruva lied to the complainant, Lisa Ndongwe, that he needed RTGS$28 470 000 as he wanted to do some payments and in return the latter would have US dollars equivalent.

It is alleged that Ndongwe sent the money to Maruva’s bank account and he confirmed that his bank account had been credited with the money.

It is alleged that since the transaction was made, Maruva was no longer answering Ndongwe’s calls.

The court heard that Maruva was only arrested after being spotted by Ndongwe in the CBD.

As a result, Ndongwe lost US$949.
