A 35-year-old teacher from Chegutu was arraigned before the Chegutu Magistrates’ Courts facing rape charges.
The accused person is a teacher at a local school and the complainant is a Form Three student at a local college.
The State alleges that on April 26, 2024 at around 2200 hours, the accused person picked up the complainant, 15, and her cousin, 17, from their grandmother’s residence and took them to his bar which he operates at Kaguvi 3 Shopping Centre in Chegutu.
He bought the complainant alcohol throughout the night until 0200 hours when the complainant’s cousin asked the accused person to take them back home as the complainant was drunk and unconscious.
The accused person took her to his car in the company of her cousin and drove off. On their way home, he parked his car by the roadside and had sexual intercourse with the complainant who was conscious.
The complainant’s cousin then later reported the matter to a relative and the matter was reported to the police, leading to accused person’s arrest.
He was remanded in custody to May 9, 2024.
