A 28-year-old Nyanga man, Dickson Simango, appeared before Nyanga Magistrate’s court on charges of unlawful entry that occurred on April 11 at a bar in Nyamhuka 2.
According to reports, Simango is alleged to have broken into the bar through the roof, where he removed an asbestos sheet and ceiling space, before stealing food items and alcohol, all worth a total value of US$266.80 with US$183.50 worth of goods recovered.
He is also alleged to have gobbled three bottles of whiskey while commuting the crime, leading to him passing out after getting intoxicated at the crime scene where he was subsequently found lying on the ground in the morning by the bar owner.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, of which three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
An additional month was suspended on condition that he pays back a sum of US$83.30.
