Denver Mukamba, the former Zimbabwe Warriors captain, has found a surprising silver lining after a tumultuous exit from the Premier Soccer League. While playing “social soccer” for a pittance just months ago, Mukamba is now enjoying “rich pickings” in Division One football.

His explosive debut for ambitious side Scottland FC saw him bag a brace and a hefty US$2 000 bonus – a stark contrast to the US$10 transport allowance he received in the Harare Super League.

“Denver is smiling all the way to the bank,” revealed a source at Scottland, highlighting the significant financial upgrade Mukamba received. This windfall is particularly noteworthy considering “even the best of the PSL earners” wouldn’t get such a sum for winning a single game.

Mukamba’s joy was short-lived, however, as a muscle strain forced him off the pitch during Scottland’s recent 0-1 home defeat to PAM. This setback throws a wrench into Scottland’s mid-season transfer window plans, where they aimed to attract top talents like Mukamba to bolster their championship push.

Despite the loss, Scottland remains in contention, albeit six points behind the dominant Harare City, who boast a perfect record after six games. Lloyd Mutasa’s MWOS, Herentals Under-20, and Golden Eagles are tied for second place, just ahead of Scottland.
