A man from Borrowdale, Harare, who was allegedly in the habit of stealing vanish and thinners from his boss and putting water in the containers, has been taken to court.

Panashe Zhuwakin, 26, of Borrowdale, appeared before magistrate Simon Kandiyero at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft.

Zhuwakin, who admitted to the charge, was remanded in custody.

The State, through prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu, alleges that from April 2024 to May this year, Zhuwakin started stealing from the complainant, who is his employer.

The court heard that he would steal vanish and thinners and then put water in the containers.

The complainant later found out after receiving a call from one of his frequent customers and made a police report.

Investigations led to the arrest of Zhuwakin and the recovery of 5 litres of Dark Oak vanish from one Tinashe Zimbiru, who had bought it from Zhuwakin.

As a result, the value that was stolen is US$1 113 and only US$25 was recovered.
