An ETG Curechem explosive manager has been arraigned before the courts accused of stealing money from the company.
Ashworth Chiringa, 45, of Ashdown Park, appeared before magistrate Simon Kandiyero at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft of trust property.
He will appear in court on May 27.
The complainant is ETG Curechem Pvt Ltd being represented by Tinashe Rujuwa.
The State, through prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu, alleges that in January, ETG Curechem sought the services of a company called ELTEL Electricals Pvt Ltd to supply and repair lighting conductor earthing, testing and commission for two points at the company.
The company was charged US$4 500 for the service.
As a result, Curechem gave Chirnga the money so that he could pay to ELTEL Electricals after completion of the job.
After completion of the job, the court heard that he paid US$2 250 to ELTEL and lied that the balance was not yet paid and he allegedly converted the balance of US$2 250 to his own.
The offence came to light on April 17, when one Amos Muyambo from ELTEL Electricals wrote a letter of demand to ETG Curechem, demanding payment of the balance.
That is when it was realised that Chiringa had paid half of the amount and converted part of the money to his own use and a police report was made.
As a result, US$2 250 was stolen.
