In a bizarre incident, a Kwekwe family has decided to exhume the remains of a family member for reburial at their rural home in Chipinge.
The family claims that the decision to rebury the remains in Manicaland came because they believe his burial in Kwekwe is causing family misfortunes.
The relative, who died in 1992, was buried at Amaveni Cemetery in the Midlands town.
The exhumation process took place under the watch of Kwekwe City Council's health department officials, the police and the Registrar-General's Office.
Although the family members did not divulge the exact reason why they were exhuming the relative’s remains some sources claimed family members were having sleepless nights with their late relative complaining that he was dumped.
Councillor for the area, Charles Juta, also witnessed the exhumation.
“Yes, I am aware of the exhumation and the family followed all the required procedures which is why they are allowed to continue with the exhumation. I cannot, however, comment on behalf of the family, especially about the reasons for the exhumation as they requested that their issues remain private,” said Juta.
