A 38-year old Marange women was convicted and sentenced to 9 years imprisonment for stealing 17 cattle in Marange, Mutare.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the woman, Anna Mercy Machipe is reported to have approached head Maguta in a bid to seek permission to transport cattle from Marange to Nedziwa claiming that she had lost her original stock card.
She is alleged to have stolen a 17 cattle belonging to a village complainant before driving away with the cattle.
“Cattle theft is a serious offence that undermines the livelihoods and economic security of communities. The court’s decision to impose a substantial prison term on
the accused sends a clear message that such criminal activities will not be tolerated.
“The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected livestock theft to relevant authorities,” read the statement by the NPAZ.
