Citizens Coalition for Change secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu, who was appointed senator recently, has been named Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, overseeing both the National Assembly and the Senate.
The announcement was made this afternoon by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, during a session of the National Assembly.
This comes as National Assembly Speaker, Jacob Mudenda rescinded all positions that had been made based on a letter from Jameson Timba, who claimed to be leader of the CCC.
When Zim Now called to confirm the position, Sen Tshabangu said he was in a meeting before hanging up.
“Sorry. I am in a meeting,” he said and hung up.
Senator Tshabangu will, in his new role, serve as the primary link between the Government and various stakeholders in all engagements with the opposition.
He is tasked with, among other things, forming portfolio committees and appointing chairpersons to represent the opposition in key international organisations, which include the Pan African Parliament, the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum, the International Parliamentary Union, and the African, Caribbean and Pacific-European Union.
Sen Tshabangu has also been appointed to the Parliament Standing Rules and Orders Committee, the highest decision-making body in the legislative assembly.
His membership in the International Parliamentary Union, the global parliamentary organisation, further underscores his influential position.
Sen Tshabangu, through this appointment, becomes key figure in the nation’s political landscape, with the mandate to ensure the opposition’s voice is heard both locally and internationally.
