A ZRP officer stationed at Matapi Police Station, who allegedly raped and robbed his victim in Pioneer Cemetery in Mbare, has been granted US$100 bail.
Tarisai Sithole, of Ziko New Stands, Chitungwiza, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with rape and robbery.
He will appear in court on July 9 for a trial date.
The State alleges that on April 26, at around 1700 hours, the complainant in this matter came out of a commuter omnibus at Simon Mazorodze Flyover, Mbare, and was approached by Sithole, who was in the company of another unknown man, who is still at large.
The accused persons then allegedly took the complainant to Pioneer Cemetery in Mbare where they forcibly stole her bag which contained her documents before allegedly taking turns in raping her without protection.
The complainant went and reported the matter at ZRP Matapi.
While she was still in the charge office, Sithole entered and the complainant identified him.
Sithole allegedly took the complainant aside and threatened her not to report the matter.
The court heard that the complainant reported the matter to officers who were there and was taken to the scene where she recovered her documents, dress and a pair of shoes.
It is alleged that she later went to ZRP Harare Central and reported the matter.
