Man jailed for kidnapping, sodomising 4-year-old boy

A 20-year-old man from Sadza, Hwedza, was sentenced to 4 years and 20 years in prison on two counts of kidnapping and aggravated indecent assault respectively, of a four-year-old boy.

According to reports, the accused is said to have kidnapped the complainant while on his way back from school, alleging that he had been sent by his mother to collect him, leading to the accused keeping the boy in the bush for a number of days where he is reported to have had anal intercourse with the boy.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority said that the grandmother to the boy organised a search party together with other villagers after the boy had been missing for a few days, leading to the arrest of the accused person on May 20.

The grandmother also revealed that the boy had told her of the ordeal he had gone through when the accused kidnapped him.

“A 20-year-old man from Sadza was brought before the Chivhu Magistrate’s Court facing kidnapping and aggravated indecent assault charges. The accused person kidnapped a 4-year-old boy for 4 days and kept him in the bush while having anal sexual intercourse with the child.

“A few days after the boy went missing, the grandmother was informed that he had been seen in the company of the accused person. The villagers formed a search party leading to the accused person’s arrest. The child told his grandmother about the sexual abuse when the accused person was arrested," the NPA said.

The accused person was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for the first count of kidnapping and on the second count, he was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.

He will serve 24 years effective.
