An HIV positive Greendale man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing and raping his 18-year-old daughter on March 2 this year.
The man who is reported to have started the sexual abuse along Harare-Mutare highway by touching the victim’s privates, was reported to the police by his wife after the girl had recorded a conversation, using her mobile phone, where he had been telling the victim of his intention to be intimate with her.
It is alleged that the accused did not take the rejection of his sexual advances well, leading to him physically attacking his daughter before raping her once.
While delivering the sentence, Harare Magistrate, Donald Ndirowei commended the victim’s stepmother for reporting the matter to the police, while also condemning the act and labelling it as a gruesome offence.
“During pre-sentencing hearing, it was revealed that the offender was HIV positive and was aware of his status. The victim fortunately received post-exposure prophylaxis (treatment) within 72 hours since she reported early and tested negative of this virus," Magistrate Ndirowei said.
The victim pleaded with the court to sentence the accused to life imprisonment, however he was given a 20-year sentence.
