Two Central Vehicle Registry employees, Natalie Mazhero (26) and Chiraswa Nyagumbo (44), appeared in court on Monday facing charges of criminal abuse of office. Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa remanded them out of custody until July 5th.
The complaint against Mazhero, a dispatch clerk, and Nyagumbo, a licensing officer, stems from an alleged incident on March 1, 2024, at the CVR Harare depot. The prosecution claims that Mazhero entered a falsified certificate of competency for a vehicle belonging to Richard Runyararo Mahomva, a director in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services. Nyagumbo is accused of approving this false document in the CVR system, a clear violation of her job duties.
Elizabeth Machigere, the CVR's acting deputy registrar (license section), brought the charges against the two employees.
