Richmark Mining has pledged to cover the school fees of all children attending Nhakayevana Community Center in Chikukwa ward 11, Goromonzi from now going forward.
“When I heard that one of the children had dropped out of school because of unpaid fees, I realised that there is need to do more,” said Richmark managing director Ms Diana Gao during a visit to the Nhakayevana and Mhuriimwe centres where Richmark and Chinese Loving Moms shared some items including blankets, heaters and foodstuffs.
Richmark is the miner that supplies Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe's multi-million dollar processing plant in Goromonzi.
Chairman of Nhakayevana Kudakwashe Mudyiwa said the pledge from Richmark is a game changer for the center which offers support to vulnerable children.
"This is a significant milestone for our community. To have someone offer to pay school fees for our children is a dream come true. We are truly grateful for this incredible act of kindness."
Mudyiwa said the centre gives foodstuffs and other assistance to vulnerable children who are fostered within the community.
A few of the kids live at the centre.
"Today's gesture by Richmark has brought much joy to our community. We are extremely thankful for their generosity and compassion,” said one of the centre caregivers, Ruvimbo Rakadiyi.
"My message to Richmark is that please continue to extend your support not only to us but to other communities in need, your kindness is deeply appreciated."
Luna Zhao, PR for Richmark, expressed the organisation's commitment to the long-term educational needs of the children in the community.
"Richmark is dedicated to supporting these vulnerable children through their academic journey.
"We will continue to provide assistance until they successfully earn their certificates, and we will even welcome them to Richmark once they graduate from university."
She said Richmark's goal is to help these children reach their full potential and make a positive impact on their communities.
"Today's donation brought great joy to our community. We are experiencing unprecedented levels of food insecurity, and this generosity is deeply appreciated. We welcome any donations that can help support the vulnerable children in our care," said Mhuriimwe Centre mother Isabel Kasimonje.
Mhuriimwe mostly deals with vulnerable children referred by Social Welfare, ensuring a high level of accountability and support for the young members of the community.
Pastor Wonder Kasimonje who heads Mhuriimwe said that the Chinese community in Zimbabwe has really made a great difference to the vulnerable children in the area.
“The Chinese Loving Moms have supported the centre with foodstuffs and school fees,” he said.
The care centre administrator said it is important for people looking after vulnerable demographics to understand that this is not a self-enrichment initiative and to always be fully accountable for all resources received.
