The Zimbabwe Tertiary Sports Union athletes have departed for the Confederation of University and Colleges Sports Associations games taking place in Tshwane, South Africa, from July 8th to 12th, 2024.

Zimbabwe is one of ten Southern African nations participating in the games, alongside Botswana, Angola, Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland, Malawi, Namibia, Mozambique, and Zambia.

Athletes will compete across various sporting disciplines, including athletics, basketball, chess, football, table tennis, and volleyball.

Great Zimbabwe University's Stephen Munyengwa, a 400m sprinter, expressed his gratitude to the university's management team, coaches, and fellow athletes for their unwavering support in his journey to represent Zimbabwe.  "Your encouragement and belief in me fuel my determination to continue striving for excellence and achieving greater heights," Munyengwa said in an interview.

Kudzanai Chiborise, a four-time national champion in the 800m race (2021-2024), will participate in both the 800m and the 4x400m relay. "I am very grateful to be part of the traveling team, and I hope I'm going to get a medal for 800m," Chiborise stated.

The ZTISU athletes are determined to bring home glory for Zimbabwe and their respective universities.
