Police have seized a range of goods that included used clothes, used shoes, food stuffs and alcohol worth when they stopped and searched a trucker after a tip off.
ZRP announced the arrest of Casper Kokerai, 31, for smuggling by a team deployed on an operation “No to Cross Border Crimes” at Nyamapanda Boarder Post.
Nyamapanda connects Zimbabwe and Mozambique and is aslo used by those moving between Malawi and Zimbabwe as they transit through Mozambique.
The police intercepted the Volvo truck registration number AGL 0096 which the suspect was driving conducted a search.
Items found on board included:
172 bales of second hand clothes,
10 boxes of second hand shoes
2 sacks of second hand handbags
4 sacks of mixed clothes,
2 boxes of Malawi Gin,
1 box of mixed fish,
1 X 50 kg mealie-meal
3 X 50kg sacks of cow peas
2 boxes chilli
07 X 50 kg sacks groundnuts
Police said estimate value of the items was set at US$31 235.00.
