A former chief executive of Enhanced Mortgaging and Housing, Demitria Zirenga, is facing theft charges involving US$260 000, R270 000, P21 000, and ZWL109 million. The alleged theft occurred in 2023, according to the prosecution.
The case came to light following an external audit ordered by Zirenga's ex-husband and company chairman, Harrison Marange, in January this year. The audit reportedly uncovered a significant financial shortfall, leading to suspicions that funds had been misappropriated.
Marange testified in court that the alleged theft took place during his illness in 2023. He made the startling claim that his former wife had unauthorized access to his bank account, using his PIN without his consent.
However, Zirenga has vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that all transactions were authorized and approved by her ex-husband. She further argued that the audit failed to provide concrete evidence linking her to the alleged theft.
The trial is set to resume in August.
