Common Wealth Assessment Mission Assistant Secretary General Professor Luis Franceschi is set to visit the country between November 12-18 to assess the progress the country has made to rejoin the Club.

In a statement, Foreign Affairs Minister Frederick Shava said Zimbabwe submitted an application to rejoin the organisation in 2018.

“Professor Franceschi will be visiting in line with Zimbabwe’s re-engagement thrust that seeks to reset and rekindle its foreign relations in order to create a conducive and supportive environment for the successful implementation of National Development Strategy 1 and the realisation of Vision 2030,” Minister Shava said.

During the visit, the Mission will meet with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and hold discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, (Ambassador Frederick Shava) and other ministers and senior governmental officials on issues of political, legislative and economic reforms.

The Mission will also engage the media and other stakeholders on matters of interest to the organisation.

The membership process requires an informal assessment to be undertaken by representatives of the Secretary-General, followed by consultations with other Commonwealth countries.
