Cops find illegal drugs on traffic offender

A Harare man who had been arrested for traffic offences got into double trouble when he was found in possession of drugs when he reached the police station.

Innocent Mutsegu (36), from Stopover, Epworth appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court charged of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs as defined in Section 157 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 09:23 as read with Section 14(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act Chapter 15:02.

The court heard that on 8 November, 2022 at around 1730 hours, police from Harare CBD traffic were carrying out enforcement duties when they arrested Matsengu for traffic crimes at Epworth bus rank along Rezende Street, Harare.

Matsengu was accompanied to Harare Central Police Station, where upon arrival a body search was conducted on him and one transparent plastic container with 0,5 grammes of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine was recovered from the pair of trousers he was wearing. Matsegu was subsequently apprehended and taken to CID Drugs and Narcotics.

Tests were conducted in the presence of Matsengu and the substance tested positive to Methylenedioxymethamphetamine. The seized satchet of suspected Methylenedioxymethamphetamine weighed 0,5 grammes and had a street value of ZWL$7 000-00

Magistrate Taurai Manuwero who presided over the case ordered Mutsegu to return on the 14th of November for bail application.
