Police in Mashonaland West have expressed concern at rising cases of stock theft and advised villagers to organise themselves so as to protect their animals.

“Communities are advised to form Neighbourhood Watch committees and Village Anti-Stock Theft committees who can assist in patrolling their areas especially during the night in conjunction with their local police,” said police in a statement on stock theft in Nyabira.

The police said cattle and goats are the most targeted animal.

“Farmers are being encouraged to look after their stock particularly cattle and goats 24/7 even in rural areas,” the police said.

Police also warned business people in the meat industry and some farmers conniving with criminals that they would be arrested.
