A woman has been found guilty of perjury for lying under oath about serving summons to socialite and comedian Felistus Murata popularly known as Mai TT.
Melissa Munyorove, 27, of Budiriro 3, appeared before magistrate Lynne Chizhou at the Harare Magistrates' courts charged with perjury.
She was sentenced to pay a fine of US$100 and gave her a wholly suspended three-month sentence.
The State, through prosecutor Tinotenda Masimba, proved that Munyorove swore an affidavit on May 13, 2024, claiming she had served summons to Murata on April 30, knowing it was false.
The court relied on the affidavit and gave a default judgment in favour of Munyorove.
The truth came to light when a messenger of court attempted to attach Murata's property, prompting her to investigate and discover the false affidavit.
Murata had already paid US$1 100 of the US$3 140 owed and paid the remaining balance to avoid property attachment.
Munyorove was arrested after Murata reported the matter to Highlands police.
