Mitch Tafirenyika, a 28-year-old Zimbabwe Republic Police officer has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder following a tragic incident during a police operation.
He appeared before Gweru High court charged with murder.
Tafirenyika was part of a team tasked with apprehending armed robbery suspects.
On the day of the incident, the team split into four groups to surround a farm house. When the deceased opened the door after the officers announced their presence, Tafirenyika discharged his service riffle, shooting the individual multiple times in the chest and arms. The victim died on the spot form his injuries.
He was found guilty of murder, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
