The once-thriving tourism sector of Masvingo is poised for a major revival with the upcoming Lake October Festival. This annual event, the brainchild of local businessman Garikai Garande, fuses business, tourism, sport, arts, and entertainment into a vibrant celebration of the ancient city's cultural heritage.
The fourth edition of Lake October, scheduled to take place from October 11th to 12th, aims to attract both local and international tourists to Masvingo, a city renowned for its historical landmarks, such as the Great Zimbabwe National Monuments. The festival's theme, "A Destination Festival with a Purpose," reflects its commitment to promoting tourism and economic development in the region.
Lake October offers visitors a unique experience, combining captivating music performances with exciting tours of Masvingo's tourist attractions. A stellar lineup of musicians, including Winky D, Freeman, Mbeu, Gemma Griffiths, Chillspot Family, Hwindi President, Nisha Ts, and Trevor Dongo, will serenade fans during the two-day festival at Caravan Park.
Tavita Natasha Mpala, the Public Relations manager for Lake October Festival, emphasized the project's significance in promoting Masvingo as a prime tourist destination. "The event will expose Zimbabwean arts and tourism to a wider national and international audience," she said. "It will also provide enormous business opportunities for tourism establishments and the retail industry."
Rudo Shoko, also known as Lulu the Planner, a service provider and entrepreneur, praised Garande for his initiative in creating a festival to celebrate Masvingo's cultural heritage. She encouraged local businesses to participate in the event and showcase their products and services.
