Lwendulu Primary School in Hwange recently received a consignment of library books from a school in Devon, England.
All Saints Marsh C of E Academy, which is a part of the Learning Academy Partnership, donated the books from their old library after the opening of a brand new one in July this year.
This initiative was made possible by Mrs Chilufya Babbage, a former year six teacher at All Saints Marsh, and her family who organised the books to be sent to the school in Zimbabwe.
"My family and I were delighted to distribute these valuable resources to a place where they were needed the most. Access to a range of books can help to instil a love of reading in every child and really make a difference to their education,” said Mrs Babbage.
The children of Lwendulu Primary School were delighted to receive the vast array of books, to kick start a brand-new library at their school.
Excited about the prospect of expanding opportunities for the pupils, the leadership team of Lwendulu Primary School have begun to formulate a plan that will allow students to maximise the potential of the library.
"The books have been a great tool in helping our pupils to learn English, as well as encouraging our children to read for pleasure because of the variety we now have,” said Lwendulu Primary School head Mrs Sikale.
“This is a wonderful example of the power of sharing a story. We are delighted that the children from Lwendulu Primary School can enjoy the books which we have loved reading at All Saints Marsh,” said trust lead for English at the Learning Academy Partnership Carly Watson.
