Lower Six Fees to Be Charged on Pro-Rata Basis

Lower Six pupils enrolling for the 2026 academic year will pay school fees on a pro-rata basis, with charges calculated according to the number of days remaining in Term One, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has said.

In a circular, the Ministry said: “The fees payable by the Lower Six pupils will be on a pro-rata basis, according to the approved Term One fees for each school.”

The Ministry outlined the calculation method, stating that fees should be determined using the formula: “Number of days remaining in Term One 2026 × total approved Term One fees ÷ number of days in Term One 2026.”

The directive also sets Monday, February 2, 2026, as the official commencement date for Lower Six classes nationwide.

“The commencement date for the 2026 Lower Six classes is Monday, February 2, 2026,” the circular reads.

The announcement comes amid persistent complaints from parents that some schools routinely charge fees beyond approved structures, particularly at Advanced Level, and impose mandatory uniform purchases that significantly increase the cost of entry into Lower Six.

Parents and education stakeholders have previously accused some schools of forcing learners to buy new, specialised uniforms exclusively from designated suppliers, often at prices well above market rates, effectively creating an additional financial barrier to accessing A-Level education.
