Rescue operations are ongoing after a tragic mine pit collapse in Zambia's Mumbwa District, which claimed the lives of 10 people and left five others injured, police confirmed on Monday.
"An unknown number of individuals had gone to the site to carry out mining activities earlier this morning. During the process, the ground gave way, burying them," the Zambian police said in an official statement.
Efforts are currently focused on rescuing miners who are believed to be trapped under the rubble.
"We are committed to providing all possible assistance and conducting a thorough investigation into the incident," local politician Collins Nzovu said in his statement.
