The Zimbabwe Warriors will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Lesotho in June when they face Namibia at Orlando Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The match is part of the Group J 2025 AFCON Qualifiers and carries significant importance for the Warriors' hopes of qualifying for the continental tournament.
Zimbabwe will be playing away from home, despite the match being held in South Africa. Namibia's decision to play the game behind closed doors is a strategic move to disadvantage the Warriors, who have a sizable contingent of supporters based in Johannesburg.
Warriors coach Michael Nees is aware of the challenges posed by Namibia, who have been steadily improving in recent years. "It's going to be a tough match because Namibia has been improving over the years," Nees said in a press conference. "They have good players based in South Africa, so we need to be prepared."
Zimbabwe currently sits in third place in Group J with 2 points, trailing Kenya and Cameroon, who are tied for the top spot with 4 points each. A victory over Namibia would give the Warriors their first win of the campaign and keep their qualification hopes alive.
"There are six points at stake against one team, our target is to qualify by our own hands by November," Nees added. "If we can collect two points, it will put us in a strong position."
