A teller from a money transfer outlet in Ngundu, Masvingo, fell victim to a harrowing armed robbery on Monday evening when four gunmen ambushed him while he was heading home.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the suspects, armed with pistols, forced the teller to return to the outlet. Once there, they compelled him to open the safe, looting US$46,349.00 and ZAR 924,100.00 in cash before fleeing.

"The ZRP is investigating circumstances surrounding a robbery on 25 November 2024. Four male suspects confronted a teller who works at a money transfer shop, forcing him back to the premises to open the safe," police confirmed in a statement.

The ZRP has appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in apprehending the suspects, urging them to report to the nearest police station.

This incident adds to a worrying trend of armed robberies in Zimbabwe, where cash transactions in US dollars have surged. Businesses, banks, and individuals are increasingly becoming targets, as evidenced by recent high-profile heists, including the theft of US$4 million from Ecobank in Bulawayo and a home invasion in Cowdray Park that netted robbers over US$25,000.
