Johane Masowe eChishanu Prophet Accused of Rape

A self-proclaimed prophet of the Johane Masowe eChishanu sect, Perfect Daka, 25, appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Court facing charges of raping an 18-year-old congregant under the pretense of performing a cleansing ritual.

The court heard that on December 8, the victim sought spiritual guidance at Daka's shrine. Claiming her marriage and that of her parents were in jeopardy, Daka persuaded her to stay at his shrine for a seven-day prayer session.

Later, under the guise of a cleansing process, he took the victim to his home, where the alleged assault occurred.

The victim disclosed the incident to a church member and later to her husband, leading to Daka's arrest.

He has been remanded in custody.
