A 22 year old man has been arrested by Marimba police in connection with the murder of his mother and attempted murder of his 5 year old niece. Nyasha Bandawe killed his mother, Hilda Drawu, 59, following a misunderstanding.
According to the ZRP X account, the suspect stabbed his mother several times on the neck with a kitchen knife before hiding the body under the bed and locking the bedroom door.
He then took a screwdriver and went on to stab his 5-year-old niece several times on the neck before fleeing. The injured minor was referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment.
The incident happened amid a clarion call by police for people to desist from the use of violence as a means to solve domestic disputes.
Back in 2017 a 25-year-old man, Tapiwa Chidzonga, was arrested for the brutal murder of his mother and attempted murder of his younger sibling. The incident, which occurred in Chitungwiza, was reportedly triggered by a family dispute. Chidzonga, following a heated argument with his mother, stabbed her multiple times in the neck before attempting to kill his younger brother with the same weapon.
The younger sibling managed to escape and was later taken to the hospital for treatment. Chidzonga fled the scene but was apprehended by the police after a manhunt.
